BDMS Thailand Taxonomy

Although there is currently no legal mandate in Thailand requiring healthcare service businesses to disclose financial information aligned with the Thailand Taxonomy, and the healthcare sector has not yet been designated as a direct economic sector with specific criteria, BDMS—as a leading healthcare provider committed to sustainability—has proactively initiated internal assessments. We have evaluated key activities across our network, including clean energy management, medical transportation, waste management, and green building construction. These activities are closely linked to the economic sectors defined under Phases 1 and 2 of the Thailand Taxonomy. Through these initiatives, BDMS aims to build organizational readiness and elevate our environmental performance to meet international standards.

Furthermore, our assessments strictly adhere to two fundamental principles of sustainable practice: Do No Significant Harm (DNSH) (ensuring no adverse impact on other environmental objectives) and Minimum Social Safeguards (MSS) (protecting basic social and labor standards). Our efforts are dedicated to supporting the 6 key environmental objectives

  1. Climate Change Mitigation
  2. Climate Change Adaptation
  3. Sustainable Use and Protection of Marine and Water Resources
  4. Transition to a Circular Economy
  5. Pollution Prevention and Control
  6. Protection and Restoration of Biodiversity and Ecosystems

To date, the Thailand Taxonomy Board—jointly led by the Bank of Thailand (BOT) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)—has continuously driven the national taxonomy framework, which now encompasses 6 primary economic sectors:

  • Phase 1 (June 2023): Focused on the two highest greenhouse gas-emitting sectors: the Energy Sector and the Transportation Sector.
  • Phase 2 (May 27, 2025): Expanded the green classification system to cover four additional crucial sectors: Agriculture, Construction & Real Estate, Manufacturing, and Waste Management. This phase incorporated comprehensive feedback gathered from extensive public hearings and stakeholders across the public, private, academic, civil society, and international sectors.

While healthcare providers are not yet classified as a distinct economic sector under the Thailand Taxonomy, and BDMS is not legally required to disclose its green revenue shares or capital/operating expenditures (CapEx/OpEx) under this framework, we recognize our role in environmental stewardship.

BDMS has identified that several of our core activities and value chain components are highly relevant to the 6 primary economic sectors defined under the current Taxonomy:

Taxonomy Economic Sector Relevant BDMS Activities & Operations

Energy

Improving energy efficiency in our hospitals and investing in renewable energy sources (e.g., Solar Rooftop installations).

Transportation

Enhancing green medical logistics and eco-friendly patient transport systems.

Construction & Real Estate

Developing and renovating hospital facilities in accordance with international Green Building standards.

Manufacturing

Implementing sustainable practices in manufacturing pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, and healthcare products within our network.

 Waste Management

Maintaining systematic sorting, treatment, and disposal protocols for infectious waste, general waste, and recyclable materials.

By recognizing these intersections, BDMS has begun assessing and mapping these activities and related expenditures to prepare for future Taxonomy Eligibility and Taxonomy Alignment evaluations.

BDMS is fully committed to acting as a driving force in Thailand's transition toward a low-carbon society. Moving forward, we will continue to:

  • Closely Monitor Policy Developments: Track regulatory updates from the Bank of Thailand, the SEC, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), and other governing authorities.
  • Enhance Data Readiness: Improve internal data collection infrastructure to systematically identify and classify business activities and expenditures in line with Thailand Taxonomy criteria.
  • Align with Global Standards: Benchmark our practices against leading international frameworks, including the EU Taxonomy and ASEAN Taxonomy, to ensure BDMS's ESG foundation remains robust and credible on the global stage.
